MAY DAY MAYDAY
The Gathering on May 1st at 1pm at the Provincial Legislature is the first step in creating awareness. It is being organized by business and community organizations and is supported by farm groups and farmers. The message will be that the crisis in agriculture is not the whole story, but that it is contributing to the crisis in rural PEI. The Rally will be billed as "MAY DAY MAYDAY". The emphasis is as follows: "This is more than a crisis about agriculture. This is a crisis about the future, your future, of Prince Edward Island. Agriculture is the engine of the Provincial economy. Rural PEI is the engine of the urban economy. The urban centres will not be spared. The demise of the rural community will impact on all of us as Islanders. Show that you understand. Show you care. Show your support on May First at the Provincial Legislature."
We ask everyone to get the word out as broadly as possible. We anticipate very positive press coverage, the impact of which will be determined by the size of the gathering.
PEIBD.com believes strongly in supporting the agricultural sector of PEI. There isn't a sector of PEI that isn't impacted by agriculture and the ripple effect impacts everyone and every community. We will be there May 1st - We strongly encourage everyone to show their support as well. |
